Updates made in 1998 included using data from other sources. For example, non-forested polygons (including lakes, rock, ice) were copied from the Wildlife Habitat theme; harvest clearcut dates were copied from the TRI Vegetation theme and TRI*Oracle database.
This coverage has not been vertically integrated with other vegetation coverages. Therefore, the boundaries of the fire polygons (notably the fires in the 20th century) are subject to minor adjustments. Also, non-forested areas inside a fire polygon may not be displayed. The codes indicated for water and rocks were not applied consistently; therfore, other vegetation coverages will show many more water and non-forested features than this coverage.
Within a fire polygon, the entire area probably did not burn. On the average, approximately 75% of the area burned. Parklands above forested lands usually did not burn. In some cases, parklands did burn, but the data have not been compiled yet to reflect the fire history.
