Cover was built from the Cartographic Feature File lines that were shipped from the Geometronics Service Center in Salt Lake City in July of 1997. The GNIS (geographic names) were dowloaded from the USGS (<http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis>) and placed in a point file. The water body polygons and gnis points were ovelayed to associate the official names to with the water bodies. Many water bodies are still not named. This layer should be considered a cartographic product and may not be useful for environmental modeling as some shore lines would be interpreted differently.
