Visitor Use: Light
Access: East or westbound I-84 – Take Wyeth exit # 51. Head west on Wyeth Road and drive 0.1 miles (0.2 km) to Wyeth Campground. The trail starts at the southern end of the campgrounds.
Description: Trail # 411 combines spectacular viewpoints and
wildflower meadows mixed with dense stands of Douglas fir, silver fir, and mountain
hemlock. From the parking area, hike up
Gorton Creek to the junction with Trail # 400.
Turn left and continue on # 411 to ford Harphan Creek. Embark on a steep hike for about 2.5 miles
before reaching a viewpoint of the Columbia River. Continue on the trail to North Lake, a
welcome sight after the steep ascent of the walls of the southern part of the
gorge.
Features: When walking the trail in spring and summer,
look for the deer’s head orchid, buck brush, pine broomrape, North Lake and
dense stands of fir and hemlock.
