Wyeth campground will likely not have potable water in 2010. Please plan accordingly.

In the past, reservations for the Eagle Creek Overlook group site have been made directly through the Hood River office.  The Overlook is now available for reservation only through www.recreation.gov.  (This was formerly ReserveUSA.com.  If you go to ReserveUSA, you will be re-directed to recreation.gov.)  Reservations can be made 360 days in advance.

Eagle Creek, Wyeth and Herman Creek do not accept reservations; however they generally have open sites except on holiday weekends (Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day).    Arriving any weekday, especially before 3 PM, you will generally find a site.

Eagle Creek Campground is located just south of Eagle Creek Overlook. Located 41 miles east of Portland take exit #41 from I-84 eastbound. Approaching from the west on I-84, there is no westbound exit. Take the Bonneville Dam exit #40, turn left at the stop sign and then turn left onto the eastbound freeway entrance. Take I-84 eastbound to exit #41.

The campground includes 17 sites, potable water, restrooms with flush toilets and can accommodate trailers up to 20'. Overnight camping fee is $15.00 per night. Reservations not taken; campground is managed on a first come first serve basis.

Built in 1915, Eagle Creek Campground is considered the first Forest Service campground constructed in the United States. It also features the first restroom with flush toilets constructed in a Forest Service campground, which is still in use. Eagle Creek offers a variety of activities: enjoy a spectacular view of the Columbia Gorge from Wauna Point, hike on the Historic Eagle Creek Trail, constructed in 1916, which is still considered one of the most popular and scenic hikes in the gorge, or fish Eagle Creek.  Several trails are in the area:  Eagle Creek #440, Buck Point, Gorge #400, Ruckel Creek #405, Wauna Point #402, Gorge #400and Shady Glen.

Eagle Creek Overlook is located 41 miles east of Portland. From I-84 eastbound take exit #41; at the end of the off ramp turn left at the stop sign. Follow the paved road under the freeway to the parking area.

Approaching from the west on I-84, there is no westbound exit. Take the Bonneville Dam exit #40, turn left at the stop sign and then turn left onto the eastbound freeway entrance. Take I-84 eastbound to exit #41 and follow directions above.

Facilities at the Overlook include: 30' x 20' shelter with stone fireplace, potable water, restrooms, many picnic tables, fire rings and grills. The site may be reserved for group camping or picnicking. The site holds up to 90 people and about 40 cars. It can also accommodate trailers up to 22 ft.

The restrooms have just been updated for accessibility.

Herman Creek Horse Camp is located just east of Cascade Locks and 47 miles east of Portland. Traveling east bound on I-84 take exit #44, Cascade Locks and travel to the east end of Cascade Locks, take a left on Forest Lane and head east for approximately two miles to the Herman Creek Work Center, enter there and follow signs to the campground. From I-84 west bound take exit #47, Herman Creek, take left at end of ramp and travel west on Forest Lane Road approximately two miles to the Herman Creek Work Center.

Herman Creek Horse Camp offers seven sites, potable water, restrooms, loading dock, hitching rails and can accommodate trailers up to 22 ft. Overnight camping fee is $10.00 per night. No reservations are required; campground is managed on first come first serve basis. The site also serves as a trail head for the Herman Creek Trail #406 and the Pacific Crest Trail #2000.

Wyeth - Oregon

Wyeth is located 51 miles east of Portland. From I-84 east or westbound, take exit #51, Wyeth and travel west on Herman Creek Road 1/4 mile.

Wyeth Campground offers 14 sites and three group sites, potable water (no potable water 2009 -2010), restrooms with flush toilets and can accommodate trailers up to 30 ft, but there are not hookups. No reservations are required; the site is managed on a first come, first serve basis. This site also serves as a trail head for the Wyeth Trail #411 and the Gorge Trail #400.

The Wyeth Campground is a beautiful and secluded site. The Wyeth area was an early settlement site and was later used as a CCC camp in the 1930's and a Conscientious Objector camp in the 1940's. Read more about Wyeth's history here. Enjoy hiking on the nearby Wyeth trail, scamper up to the scenic Gorton Creek Falls or relax and enjoy the surrounding scenery.
