The campground is situated next to Indian Ford Creek, a small
stream shaded by quaking aspen and common snowberry. Majestic
ponderosa pine trees dominate the surrounding upland. The
combination creates a summertime thermal retreat for wildlife
and human visitors.

This site is hard to beat for its variety of songbirds and
woodpeckers in spring and summer. Among those colorful birds
are numerous kinds of warbler (orange-crowned,
Nashville,
yellow,
yellow-rumped,
hermit,
MacGillivray's,
Wilson's,
and common
yellowthroat). Rarities to Oregon that have been found
here are golden-winged warbler, Tennessee warbler, and chestnut-sided
warbler. You might encounter many species of woodpecker (red-naped
sapsucker, downy,
hairy,
white-headed,
and northern
flicker). A woodpecker normally found in the eastern U.S.
-- yellow-bellied sapsucker -- has been reported.
