Gray Butte Trail -- Trail #852
   
Ochoco National Forest - Crooked River National Grassland
ACCESS:
From Madras -- Head SOUTH on Highway 26 for approximately
15.7 miles. Turn RIGHT onto Forest Road 7960 (Lone Pine Road). Follow
for approximately .25 miles. Turn RIGHT onto FOREST ROAD 57. Follow
FOREST ROAD 57 for approximately 3.3 miles. The trailhead is on
the left side (south) of the road across from the apple orchard
at the old McCoin homestead. The orchard is ringed with poplar trees.
From Prineville -- Head NORTH on Highway 26 for approximately
12.8 miles. Turn LEFT onto Forest Road 7960 (Lone Pine Road). Follow
for approximately .25 miles. Turn RIGHT onto FOREST ROAD 57. Follow
FOREST ROAD 57 for approximately 3.3 miles. The trailhead is on
the left side (south) of the road across from the apple orchard
at the old McCoin homestead. The orchard is ringed with poplar trees.
From Smith Rock State Park -- The trail can be accessed
from Smith Rock State Park. Follow the trail on the north side of
the Crooked River to a trail leading up a draw connecting to Burma
Road. Hike the road to the top. Gray Butte Trail takes off to the
right from the highest point on the road.
