Crater Butte Trail -- Trail #44

ACCESS: From Crater Butte Trailhead near Odell Resort at east end of Odell Lake.

DESCRIPTION: The trail begins near east end of Odell Lake at the Crater Butte Trailhead and ends at the Pacific Crest Trail (#2000) near Marie Lake. There are junctions with the Fawn Lake Trail (#44A), Stag Lake Trail (#44B), Whitefish Creek Trail (#42), and Snell Lake Trail (#43). The trail starts in Douglas fir/white fir/mountain hemlock forest then grades into lodgepole and back to a mountain hemlock/noble fir forest. Fawn, Saddle, and Stag Lakes.

NOTE: The trail enters the Diamond Peak Wilderness Area shortly after leaving the trailhead. Wilderness Permits are required for both day-use and overnight travel in the Wilderness from Memorial Day Weekend until Oct. 31. Permits are available at the trailhead.

FEE: No trailhead fees

LENGTH: 13.7 miles one-way.

ELEVATION (low): 4850 feet

ELEVATION (high): 6200 feet

SEASON: Summer-Fall

DIFFICULTY: Easy

RECOMMENDED USES: Hiking, Horses

PROHIBITED USES: Mtn Bikes, Motorized Use
