Fuelwood Permit
Terms and Conditions
- A Fuelwood Permit may be purchased at all
Stanislaus National Forest offices between April 1 and November 30 of each
year. Permits will terminate
on November 30 regardless of whether
forest products are removed.
- The Personal Use Fuelwood Permit must be in the permittee's possession
while harvesting and transporting fuel wood; the permit is non-transferable.
- The permit and fuelwood gathering activities are subject to all
applicable Federal Statues and Regulations, and State and Local laws.
- Permittee shall remove all trash and litter resulting from permittee's
activities; concurrent with forest product removal activities, unused
vegetative material shall be removed from roads and ditches.
- Permittee shall prevent and suppress forest fires; dispose of slash
resulting from permittee's activities; repair all damage to roads, trails,
fences, ditches, and telephone lines resulting from permittee's activities
under the permit.
- The Forest Service reserves the right to unilaterally revoke the permit
for permittee's non-compliance with its terms and conditions, or in the
public's interest.
- None of the terms or conditions of the permit may be varied or modified
except for unilateral modifications by the Forest Officer that signed the
permit, the Forest Officer's successor, or superior officer.
- Permittee is required to punch out the month and day on the Load Tags and
attach to the rear of the firewood load or vehicle before leaving the loading
site; one tag will be used for each 1/4 cord or portion thereof.
- Fuelwood cutting, gathering, removal or hauling shall be limited to
daylight hours ( 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset). Do not or
remove wood where prohibited. Prohibited areas are active timber sale areas, areas or
roads closed by Forest Supervisor Order, campgrounds and administrative sites.
- Approved spark arresters are required on all chainsaws at all times. Size
"0" shovel or larger (minimum of 38" overall length) and an approved fire
extinguisher (minimum 14 oz.) must be possessed when cutting or transporting
firewood and must be immediately available to the chainsaw operator.
- It is prohibited to use an internal combustion saw on a "no cut day."

- By signing this permit you consent to be contacted by a Forest/Peace
Officer while cutting, removing, or transporting fuel wood.
- Motor vehicle travel is permitted up to 100 feet from roads, routes, and
established travel ways for direct access to wood cutting provided that (a) no
resource damage occurs; and (b) such access is not otherwise prohibited.
- Each permittee/household is limited to 10 cords each calendar year.
- Only DOWN MATERIAL may be taken. All firewood must be cut less than 6 feet
in length prior to hauling.
