Highland Lakes Campground Elevation 8,600 Setting Alpine forest (Lodgepole and Jeffrey Pine, Red Fir); "saddle" surrounded by high peaks.  Adjacent to Highland Lakes . Directions Highway 4 to Highland Lakes Road; follow road seven miles south to campground Road Access Highland Lakes Road is narrow, steep and winding dirt route where safe travel speeds average 20 mph or less Total Campsites 35 Walk-In Campsites   Max. Spectacular late-season wildflowers in August and September. Reminder: Horses are prohibited inside a developed campground.
