Science in Sierra Nevada Ecosystems
Incorporating the latest scientific information into national forest management through broad public and intergovernmental participation is an essential part of good public land stewardship.
The Forest Service employed two principles as it developed the Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendment (SNFPA): integrate the latest scientific information into forest plans and do so in an open, public process. The science in the SNFPA reflects landmark works such as the Sierra Nevada Ecosystem Project (1996) and The California Spotted Owl: A Technical Assessment of Its Current Status (1992).
In an effort to make relevant scientific information available to the public, this section provides links to scientific reports and activities related to the SNFPA and the 2002 review.
