In 2006 the Forest Service, Region 5, which includes California, Hawaii, Guam, and the Trust Territories of the Pacific Islands, continued several long term monitoring studies of significant wildlife species in the Sierra Nevada. The studies focus on developing scientifically valid assessments of the status of several species and increasing understanding of how forest and rangeland management may affect species, ecosystems and processes over time under the management direction in the Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendment Record of Decision 2004 (SNFPA ROD).
