Adaptive Management
Sierra Nevada Adaptive Management Assessment
The Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendment (SNFPA), FSEIS Record of Decision (ROD) 2004, adopts an Adaptive Management Strategy (AMS) for the SNFPA.
The 2004-ROD provides for a more active approach to vegetation management providing more flexibility for forest managers working with local stakeholders to design treatments that meet multiple objectives. This active management approach has the potential to modify a portion of affected sensitive species habitats in the short-term to meet the longer-term goals of reduced wildfire losses and increased forest health.
Given the shift in management direction for the SNFPA it is appropriate to review the risks and uncertainties associated with the new management direction in the 2004-ROD and adjust the priorities of monitoring and research as appropriate.
