SUGAR PINE ADAPTIVE MANAGEMENT PROJECTFollow this link for environmental documents regarding the Sugar Pine Adaptive Management Project (AMP) on the Bass Lake Ranger District. More... DINKEY SOUTH AND NORTH PROJECTThe Sierra National Forest is initiating a project planning forum for the areas known as Dinkey South & Dinkey North. The purpose of the planning forum is to bring interested parties together to develop a project, subject to environmental review, that addresses multiple stakeholder interests to the greatest degree possible. The goal of the collaborative planning forum is to develop an on-the-ground project or proposed action that addresses the agreed-upon purpose and need for the Dinkey South and North project. More... Updated 10/28/09 KINGS RIVER EXPERIMENTAL WATERSHED PROJECTThe Forest Service is preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Kings River Experimental Watershed Forest Health and Research Project (KREW Project). The EIS will evaluate the environmental effects of the KREW Project which is designed to treat portions of the Kings River watershed to improve forest health and to examine the short- and long-term effects of these treatments. The research will lead to information that will be instrumental in future land management planning for the Sierra National Forest (SNF) and other Sierra Nevada forests. More.... TRAVEL MANAGEMENTOver the next few years, the Sierra National Forest along with all the national forests in California will complete an inventory of all the roads, trails, and areas used by off-highway vehicles, identify a system of routes from that inventory, and designate those routes/areas for off-highway vehicle use. More RECREATION FACILITIES ANALYSISThe Forest is proposing a change to the future management of developed recreation sites through a process called "Recreation Facility Analysis." Many of the Sierra NF facilities were built 30-50 years ago and have reached the end of their useful life without significant deferred maintenance investment. Other facilities receive little or no use, and no longer serve the demand that existed in years past. The fundamental premise of the program of work is to have an inventory of recreation sites which are sustainable and can be adapted to changes in demand, available resources, and opportunities. RECREATION RESIDENCESAccording to Forest Service policy, the Sierra National Forest must conduct a Recreation Residence Consistency Review and Continuance Determination for 555 recreation residences in 20 tracts under special use permit on the Sierra National Forest. Current permits will expire on December 31, 2008. More SIERRA NATIONAL FOREST LAND AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PLAN (LMP)The Sierra National Forest completed is Land and Resource Management Plan (LMP) in 1992. The LMP established standards and guidelines for analyzing management activities on National Forests. More SIERRA NEVADA FRAMEWORKIn 2001, the Forest LMP was amended and updated with the Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendment (SNFPA) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), Record of Decision, and implementation guidelines. The Framework analyzed five critical areas on 11 National Forest in the Sierra Nevada, providing updated standards and guidelines for the analysis of management activities. More PLANNING DOCUMENTSPlease see the schedule of proposed actions above. The schedule provides a name that you can contact to be placed on the mailing list to receive documents for specific projects. The forest does not maintain a general mailing list for individuals to receive all planning documents. You must contact the specific project coordinator to be placed on a mailing list. PLANNING PRINCIPLESContinued planning occurs so that the Forest Plan remains a dynamic and responsible tool for managing the Forest's land and resources in a changing social and economic climate. More REGIONAL FORESTER'S SENSITIVE SPECIES LISTThe list, last updated in 1998, consists of rare plants and animals which are given special management consideration to ensure their continued viability on the national forests. Species on the sensitive species list are considered sensitive for every forest where they occur in the Region. More
