Cabin History: Poso Station Cabin was constructed in 1933 near the small town of Posey to provide a residence for fire patrolmen stationed in that area. In the 1980's, the station was abandoned. The cabin is single story and consists of 1 bedroom with 2 small closets, 1 bathroom, and 1 common room/kitchen. No original light fixtures, wiring, flooring, or bath fixtures remain. The interior has been modified with paneling, modern sliding glass windows, and modern counter tops in food preparation area. The exterior is constructed of board and batten style paneling nailed to a standard wooden frame, apparently replacing the standard lapped board siding.
Recreation Use: Overnight use of Poso Station Cabin and its facilities is available for individuals, families and groups of 10 or less. If you plan on being a larger group, specific arrangements will need to be made and fees adjusted accordingly. The cabin is equipped with a stove and refrigerator, wall heater, double hide-a-bed couch, queen bed and twin bed, all with mattresses, and a small bathroom complete with a tub/shower. There are also other items of equipment and/or supplies, such as cleansers, pots, pans, utensils, dishes and silverware, and a shovel and ax. Because of vandalism problems, the presence of these items is not guaranteed. There is an outdoor fire ring/barbecue, and picnic table in both the front and back of the cabin. The cabin will provide sleeping area inside for 5 adults, with plenty of room outside for tents, cots, or a motor home. NO SMOKING ALLOWED INSIDE FACILITIES. Please be aware the "parking area" may be shared with cattle passing by.
Enjoying Your Stay: Plan on bringing sleeping bags or bedding and pillow, bath towels and toiletries. A few yard chairs are provided but you may need a flashlight, camera, and binoculars. Fishing is available in nearby Poso Creek, within walking distance.
