Kids learning from Ranger Mark Howe

Nuui Cunni Heritage Days - The Sequoia Heritage staff joined with the Kern River Paiute Native American Council in the Nuui Cunni Heritage Days. Mark Howe, Kern River Ranger District Archaeologist displayed heritage resource artifacts and gave multiple presentations to third grade students from local schools. Throughout the day over 200 students participated. Patricia Henry, Native American Culture Center Director, and her staff created several enriching displays and shared Native American traditional practices. Through the generosity of the inter-tribal participants and volunteers, students were provided a rich cultural experience! The days event provided the students with a lasting outdoor educational experience.

Each year the Native American Community comes together to celebrate their traditions. Local schools and visitors come and observe demonstrations and history of the Kern Valley Indians. Demonstrations are provided on Language, Tule Baskets, Structures, Prayers, and much more. If you would like more information please contact Vickie Tanner at the Owens Valley Career and Development office at 760-379-4770. Also visit their website at www.nuuicunni.org.
