Lloyd Road Proposal

Does Lloyd Road have all the amenities needed to qualify as a high impact recreation area?

Yes. FLREA requires that all of the following amenities are provided and are located in an integrated manner so they reasonably accommodate the visitor.

  • Designated developed parking- is provided at Jerky Trailhead and the Forks Trailhead
  • Permanent toilet facility- there are CXT vault toilet buildings at Jerky Trailhead and The Forks Trailhead and the Forest Service provides portable toilets at the concentrated use areas (CUA). In the long term the portable toilets will be replaced with CXT vault toilet buildings.
  • Permanent trash receptacle-Trash service with rented dumpsters is provided in concentrate use areas. In the long term the rented trash bins will be replaced with our own bear proof bins.
  • Interpretive sign, exhibit, or kiosk- Visitor information kiosks are located at the trailheads with interpretive panels located at the Forks Trailhead
  • Picnic tables - South Fork Recreation Area
  • Security services – Forest Protection Technicians routinely patrol the area. With fees two more seasonal recreation technicians will be hired and assigned to the area to make visitor contacts and check for compliance.
Additional facilities include an accessible trail at George H. Bush Tree in the Freeman Creek Grove.  Future additions could include interpretive signs, paved road and parking area with a CXT vault toilet, updated interpretive signs at the Forks trailhead, and a parking area, interpretive signs, and viewing facility for the Needles climbing access point.
