McNally Fire Area Restoration Project

HAZARD TREE ABATEMENT ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT

The McNally Fire Hazard Tree Abatement Project Environmental Assessment involves analyzing the affected road systems within the fire area to ascertain the extent of roadside tree mortality that would eventually cause a hazard to the public or to our employees responsible for on-the-ground management.  A Sequoia National Forest team of various professionals was assigned to this project.  Approximately 110 miles of roads were examined.  An estimated 40 miles were determined to have significant tree-kill adjacent to them.

The proposed action for this project is to fell and remove dead (no visible green needles) trees that pose a potential hazard to the public and forest workers along roads, trailheads and administrative sites within the McNally Fire perimeter on the Hot Springs and Cannel Meadow Ranger Districts.

Status:  To date, an environmental assessment (EA) has been completed and a decision notice (DN) was signed on March 7, 2003.

Inter-Disciplinary (ID) Team Leader:  Steve Anderson, 559-784-1500 extension 1187.
