McKenzie Ranch Fuels Reduction Project
The McKenzie Ranch Fuels Reduction Project is a proposal to treat fuel conditions on two areas of the Hume Lake Ranger District of the Sequoia National Forest. The purpose of this project is to reduce ladder and surface fuels in the wildland urban interface. The long term goal is to restore the natural fire cycle and old forest habitat. The existing vegetation consists of pine plantations, natural conifer stands, mixtures of conifers and oaks, and areas of native chaparral. The amounts of vegetation pose a high risk of stand-replacing wildfires, or of losses to insect or disease infestations.
