Temperature: 73- 76° F

Winds:  NW 5-10 mph

Relative Humidity: 16-20 %.

SMOKE:  Smoke is a concern for the Kennedy Meadows, Kern River Valley, Olancha and Ridgecrest during the late evening and early morning hours due to a local valley inversion.

Clover Fire Activity
Location:  Sequoia National Forest in the South Sierra Wilderness, north of Kennedy Meadows and south of Beck Meadow, California.
Acreage: 3,898 acres.

Status:  A Type 2 Incident Management Team (Johnson) assumed command of the fire this morning.  Yesterday, fire behavior was limited to surface fire with limited single tree torching and short-range spotting along the southeast flank. 

Today, aggressive management actions will continue along the south and southeastern flanks.  Crews will construct handline, helicopters will support crews with water drops, and fire use modules will monitor fire behavior. 

Fuels/Material Involved: Fire is burning in Jeffrey pine, mountain mahogany, Sage brush, Manzanita and rabbit brush.

Growth Potential: High

Committed Resources:

  • 4 helicopters
  • 8 handcrews
  • 3 Fire use modules (specialized fire crews)
  • 1 Fire behavior assessment team
  • Total of 289 personnel assigned

Pacific Crest Trail Information
Due to increased fire activity and to promote public safety the southeast flank access has been temporarily restricted through the fire area south of Beck Meadows and north of Kennedy Meadows.

Alternate routes around the fire are available that will tie back into the PCT from Kennedy Meadows to Monache Meadows which include Jackass Trail (36E01) and Monache Jeep Trail (35E02).
