ONGOING FIRES AND ALERTS

The Corral fire is burning in grass, brush and scattered timber east of Mountain 99, at "Whitesides", and is presently 150 acres.

August 6, 2009: Sequoia National Forest Supervisor Tina Terrell has issued a Forest Order prohibiting any public access on the downstream side of the Lake Isabella Auxiliary dam.  Forest Order 09-06 has been put into place for reasons of public health and safety while the Corps of Engineers (COE) performs dam safety related testing and investigations, and stores related equipment and materials in the area. Starting today [May 14, 2009] a Forest Order is in effect in the Piute Mountains to close the French Meadow Dispersed Fire Exempt Area (9-acres) through September 30, 2010.  The French Camp Site is located in the Piute Mountains and includes the designated Fire Exempt Area adjacent to Forest Road 28S27.   This road connects the Piute Mountain Road with the Alaska Flat area.
