The objective of the program is to provide maximum flexibility and opportunities for the Forest Service to hire students and provide them with practical work experience and training. And to meet employment needs of both the agency and the students and to assist the Forest Service in its progress towards a workforce representative of the nation's diversity. Definition of student - A student is an individual who has been accepted for enrollment, or who is enrolled, as a degree seeking student in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school.
Students are appointed to positions not to exceed 1 year. Appointments under this authority may be extended in one year increments as long as you meet the definition of a student. Noncitizens may be appointed to Student Temporary Employment Program provided that the student is lawfully admitted to the United States as a permanent resident or is otherwise authorized to be employed.
