Current Conditions - "Know Before you Go"


CURRENT FIRE RESTRICTIONS AND GUIDELINES - Effective October 23, 2009

  • Wood or charcoal fires are permitted only in developed campgrounds and picnic areas on the San Bernardino National Forest
     
  • Campfires are not permitted in Yellow Post Sites.
     
  • Campfire permits are required for propane and gas stoves and lanterns used outside of developed recreation sites.  (permits are available at your local Ranger Station)
     
  • Recreational Shooting is limited to Public Shooting Ranges operated under special use permit only - except those engaged in legal hunting.
     
  • An approved spark arrester is required for any internal combustion engine.  This applies to chainsaws, generators, motorcycles, and off-highway vehicles operated on the National Forest.
     
  • Smoking is limited to enclosed vehicles, buildings and developed recreation sites.
     
  • A permit is required for welding or operating any torch device with an open flame or for use of any explosive device.
     
  • Fireworks are always prohibited on the San Bernardino National Forest. Tracer, armor piercing, steel core, and Teflon ammunitions are also prohibited, as is discharging a firearm at any exploding target.
     
  • Forest Road 1N09 is subject to closure during high fire danger.
     
  • Know Before you Go - contact the local Ranger Station prior to your visit to determine local conditions and use guidelines

SAL - Sale Activity Level*

  1. Minimum Required in Contract
  2. Furnish Fire Patrol if required in contract.
  3. After 1:00 PM no cutting dead trees, no operating of high speed rotary head equipment and no blasting.
  4. Shut Down. All operations prohibited except loading truck in landings, servicing equipment in landing and dust abatement.

PAL - Project Activity Level*

  1. Minimum Restriction
  2. Furnish Fire Patrol if required in contract.
  3. After 1:00 PM no cutting dead trees,
  4. Shut Down. All operations prohibited except loading trucks in landings, servicing equipment in landing and dust abatement.
  5. Same as E except site-specific conditions may warrant a variance permitting some operations.
