Fees in HIRAs: Road entrances to HIRAs are signed. Adventure Passes or Interagency Passes are required for recreation use of all HIRAs and Special Recreation Permit areas on these forests. There is one exception: The San Gabriel Off Highway Vehicle area on the Angeles National Forest requires a separate Special Recreation Permit. Adventure Passes and Interagency Passes are not accepted for payment of the fee at that location.

Some Forest Service operated campgrounds within HIRAs require a separate overnight camping fee. At these campgrounds Adventure Passes and Interagency Passes are accepted for payment of day-use fees for picnicking – time limits are posted. Privately operated concessionaire sites are not required to accept the Adventure Pass. Most concession operated sites do accept the Interagency Senior and Access Passes for a discount.
