Management of Historic Properties Programmatic AgreementPublic Notice The Pacific Southwest Region of the United States Forest Service (Region 5), the California and Nevada State Historic Preservation Officers, and the Advisory Council on Historic are negotiating pursuant to 36 CFR 800.14(b) a programmatic agreement that will define how Region 5 forests will meet their Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act responsibilities. This agreement specifies the manner in which Region 5 forests will identify, evaluate, and treat historic properties that may be affected by their undertakings. The Programmatic Agreement meets the consultation requirements under the National Historic Preservation Act (16 U.S.C. 470) for projects that may adversely affect historic properties. This agreement replaces two similar agreements that have been in place since 1996. The proposed Programmatic Agreement is available for download (PDF 296kb) or may be obtained by contacting the Heritage Program Manager on any forest in the region. The Forest Service Manual for Heritage Program Management (FSM 2360) referenced in the agreement is also available for download. Written comments are due no later than May 15, 2009. Written comments may be submitted electronically to r5pacomments@fs.fed.us, or by mailing to Heritage Program Leader, Pacific Southwest Region, USDA Forest, 1323 Club Drive, Vallejo, CA 94592.
