GIS is key to displaying and analyzing the land allocations, prescriptions, and management zones associated with forest planning and assessments. The Remote Sensing Lab (RSL) has supported various large scale planning efforts, resulting in the development of data standards and routines for maintaining LMP GIS layers. The RSL will continue to support these Regional standards as described in the Forest Resource Database (FRDB), data dictionary, and assist in the move to National standards as they are identified under the GIS Core Layer effort. The RSL is also helping Region 5 move to the Natural Resource Information System (NRIS), especially with database modules associated with vegetation, such as FSVEG and ecology, such as TERRA.
