The meadows, lakes, and springs were buffered using rules from the Standards and Guildelines. Each were buffered 92 meters. The three buffered layers were unioned together. To include meadows and lakes in their entirety, all islands were hardcoded to prevent interior islands from being buffered. This ensured the layers included both the feature and the 92 meter buffer. An item named SPECIAL was added, and when an above feature and or buffer was present the item SPECIAL was populated with a Y. The layer was then dissolved on this item. Then, item INSIDE was added and coded 1 where SPECIAL = 'Y', and coded 0 elsewhere. Item SPECIAL was then dropped. Polygons within the NWFP spotted owl range were erased on Oct. 2, 2001 (NCA).
