RNA's help preserve our Nation's natural heritage for future generations. The protection afforded RNA's is a critical step in maintaining a range of biological diversity of native ecosystems and species. Because they are protected in a natural state, RNA's also provide valuable opportunities for monitoring of long-term ecological change, and comparison of the effects of resource management activities against unmanaged controls. For these reasons they are fast becoming an integral part of forest land and resource management plans.</PRE> <SCRIPT>fix(original)</SCRIPT> </DIV> <DIV> <DT><I>Purpose:</I></DT> <PRE ID="original">This featureclass is used in Forest Planning and project planning.</PRE> <SCRIPT>fix(original)</SCRIPT> </DIV> <DIV> <DT><I>Supplemental_Information:</I></DT> <PRE ID="original">07/20/09 CTrillo Based on the official boundary descriptions in establishment records for Indiana Summit, McAfee Meadow, Sentinel Meadows, and Whippoorwill Flat, and the http://www.fs.fed.us/psw/publications/documents/psw_gtr125/psw_gtr125.pdf for Harvey Monroe Hall, Last Chance, White Mountain, and Whitewing Mountain the following list shows which boundary was chosen to include in the Regional RNA layer for the Inyo RNAs and why. The choices were the layer updated at the Remote Sensing Lab and the layer the Inyo NF had. 1. Harvey Monroe Hall - RSL Boundary was chosen - The boundaries were the same except along the top. According to the graphic in psw_gtrl25.pdf for Harvey Monroe Hall the boundary for the RNA followed the section line East between sections 27 &amp; 34 and 26 &amp; 35, then at the midsection of 35 the boundary went South and followed the midsection line down to section 2. The RSL boundary follows the section lines as shown in the graphic. 2. Indiana Summit - RSL Boundary was chosen, but edited. According to the official boundary description in establishment records for Indiana Summit from Sue, the RSL Boundary matched closest to the described boundary. The description implies that the boundary follows the section line between sections 8 &amp; 9, and sections 4 &amp; 5 which the RSL boundary does. I did edit the west boundary along 1S47 road so that it was just to the East of the road. Before the edits the boundary was overlapping the road and falling to the West of it. 3. Last Chance Meadow - RSL Boundary was chosen - There wasn't much to go on for this one, because I could not find the official boundary description, so I just had the picture from the psw_gtr125.pdf and from http://www.fs.fed.us/psw/programs/rna/gtr_chapters_pdf/last_chance_meadow_rna.pdf to go by. The two boundaries were very similar, but the RSL boundary did look more like the one in the graphic in the last_chance_meadow_rna.pdf and it followed the ridgelines and contours closely. 4. McAfee Meadows - RSL Boundary was chosen - According to the official boundary descriptions in establishment records for McAfee from Sue Weis, the RSL boundary matched up closest to the described boundary. In description seven the boundary is described as following westwardly approximately 1.32 miles and then northwardly only about 0.66 miles to the last point which is described as being in the SE 1/4 SW 1/4 Section 4. Changed McAfee Meadows from Candidate to Established (according to http://www.fs.fed.us/psw/programs/rna/mcafee.shtml), 2003. Due to this, I also changed the SUK code from 235 (Proposed RNA) to 230 (RNA). 5. Sentinal Meadow - RSL Boundary was chosen. According to the official boundary description in establishment records for Sentinal Meadow from Sue, the RSL Boundary matched closest to the described boundary. It followed the contour lines, drainages, and ridgelines closer. 6. Whippoorwill Flat - RSL Boundary was chosen. According to the official boundary description in establishment records for Whippoorwill Flat from Sue, the RSL Boundary matched closest to the described boundary. The description states that the west boundary follows along the ridgeline, and both the North boundary and South boundary are due East/West. 7. White Mountain - RSL Boundary was chosen. There wasn't much to go on for this one, because I could not find the official boundary description, so I just had the picture from the psw_gtr125.pdf and from http://www.fs.fed.us/psw/programs/rna/gtr_chapters_pdf/white_mountain_rna.pdf to go by. The two boundaries were very similar, but the RSL boundary did look more like the one in the graphic in the white_mountain_rna.pdf and it followed the ridgelines and contours closer ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7/1/09 (ctrillo, RSL) The following boundaries and attribute data were adjusted: Cleveland NF: Updated attribute data. Agua Tibia year established changed from 1990 to 1991. Upper San Diego River, Viejas Mtn, and Guatay Mtn. Status changed from Proposed to Candidate. Source: Cleveland Forest data from KWinter, Forest Biologist, Cleveland NF Eldorado NF: Updated Peaving Ridge, Snow Canyon, and Station Creek RNA boundaries. Also updated attribute data. For Snow Canyon, the Status changed from Candidate to Existing with a year establishment date of 2003. Source: Eldorado Forest data at Kansas City Mendocino NF: Updated Devils Basin, Doll Basin, Frenzel Creek, Hale Ridge, and Wilder Ridge RNA boundaries. Source: Mendocino Forest data from KFukushima, Acting Forest GIS Coordinator, Mendocino NF. The following edits were made: 1/ Devil Basin - edited boundary for coincidence with NHD flowline data, ALP basic ownership and PLSS data. 2/ Doll Basin - edited boundary for coincidence with latest CFF streams data. 3/ Frenzel Creek edited boundary for coincidence with NHD flowline data. Realigned short section of east boundary to follow ridgeline based on USGS 7.5 map contours. 4/ Hale Ridge edited boundary for coincidence to NHD flowline data, latest CFF streams data, and ALP basic ownership data. 5/ Wilder Ridge edited boundary for coincidence to ALP Administrative Forest, basic ownership, and PLSS data. Modoc NF: Updated Raider Basin boundary to match the coincidence boundary of the Administrative Forest, Modoc. Source: CTrillo, edited layer by snapping the portion of the Raider Basin RNA boundary that follows the Forest Boundary to the BasicOwnership09_v01 layer from the RO SDE instance. Plumas NF: Updated boundaries for Mount Pleasant RNA and the two polygons that represent the Mud Lake Modoc Cypress RNA. Source: Plumas Forest data from RMartinez, GIS Coordinator, Plumas NF.
