This polygon layer consists of Forest Activities along with supporting tabular data for the Pacific Southwest Region, Region 5 that were reported as "accomplished" between October 1, 2003 and December 31, 2010.
- Purpose:
-
The Forest Service ACtivity Tracking System (FACTS) is an activity tracking system for all levels of the Forest Service. It supports timber sales in conjunction with TIM Contracts and Permits; tracks and monitors NEPA decisions; tracks KV trust fund plans at the timber sale level, reporting at the National level; and, it generates National, Regional, Forest, and/or District Reports.

FACTS is a nationally supported application that tracks land based activities through the NEPA, Layout, and Accomplished stages of a project. The features in GIS represent the activity unit on which these activities occur and are depicted in GIS as polygons, lines or points. FACTS version 2.0 uses a total of three feature classes for each feature type - polygon, line, point. Within each feature class, there exists three "sub-types" to identify the stage an activity is in - NEPA, Layout, Accomplished.
The appropriate stage of an activity unit is determined by the status of the project.
1. NEPA - The activity units are identified in a signed NEPA 'decision document' and would be entered into FACTS GIS with a NEPA subtype.
2. Layout - Once the activity unit is 'layed out' on the ground, the activity would then be entered as a Layout subtype.
3. Accomplished - When the activity has been completed (note - activities have different definitions for determining when they are completed), the activity unit would be entered into GIS with a 'Completed' subtype.
All activities contain an identification number named SUID. This ID is 19 characters in length and is a concatenation of many fields.

05 = Region Number
14 = Admin Forest Number
51 = District Number
0010001000 = FACTS ID Number
000 = Sub Unit Number
