Abstract:
This layer contains polygon features of late successional old growth emphasis areas occurring within the Herger-Feinstein Quincy Library Group (HFQLG) Pilot Project area.
Purpose:
This data was developed for use in the Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendment (SNFPA), Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement - January 2004. This layer is a land management allocation under the SNFPA Record of Decision and receives a management prescription code.

For analysis purposes, only the areas that are within National Forest boundaries apply.

Reviews_Applied_to_Data: This data has been reviewed to ensure conformance to the source data.

Notes: Consist of late successional old growth polygons. This layer contains the mapping and characterization of late successional forest attributes. This data does not include information about private land. The mapping was originally done by agency resource experts with guidance from the Sierra Nevada Ecosystem Prject Late Successional Work Group. The layer contains ecological attributes for landscape map units including rank based on polygons level of late successional forest attributes. Each polygon is subdivided into no more than 7 sub polygons or patches. Each patch is classified as a percentage of the larger polygon and described ecological attributes.In some areas the intermix of public and private land was too complex for the resource experts to accurately exclude land in their hand drawn polygons. However the data recorded for the polygon is only applicable to public land. Therefore to accurately use the layer the GIS analyst must use the administrative boundaries to exclude private land from area calculations or maps. Otherwise any acreage estimates or maps would be inaccurate because the database does not include information about the private land within the polygon.

RANK- Ranking of old growth areas based on a Sierra Nevada standard (mixed conifer) rating scheme for contribution to late successional forest attributes in the Sierra Nevada ecosystem.

ALSE- Areas of Late Successional Emphasis. This is a forest condition strategy "areas of late successional emphasis". The strategy was developed primarily for west slope forests, specifically mixed conifer and red fir/white fir types. The strategy stratifies forestland into two landscape categories; areas of late successional emphasis (1) and matrix lands (0).
