Description:
Abstract:
This polygon layer contains the boundary for the Lassen-Plumas Administrative Study Area called for in the January 2001 Record of Decision (ROD) for the Sierra Nevada Forest Plan Amendment (SNFPA).
Purpose:
The proposed study was designed to examine the responses of five key elements to three different forest management regimes involving fuels reduction, at a landscape level and over an extended timeframe. The five elements include California spotted owl populations, small mammal populations, vegetation communities, bird communities, and fire and fuels. The three fuels reduction management regimes involve different combinations of small group selection, defensible fuel profile zones or fuel-breaks, and strategically placed area thinning. Strategic fuels reduction treatments would be accomplished on approximately 183,000 acres of the 493,000 acres of national forest (NF) lands within the 613,000-acre study area. Much of the study area is within the Herger-Feinstein Quincy Library Group pilot project area.
