This information is for tracking acres that are designated for Northern Spotted Owl Activity Centers, which are defined as areas of concentrated activity of either a pair of spotted owls or a single territorial owl. One hundred acres of the best northern spotted owl habitat will be retained as close to the nest site or owl activity center as possible for all known (as of January 1, 1994) spotted owl activity centers located on federal lands in the matrix and Adaptive Management Areas. This is intended to preserve an intensively used portion of the breeding season home range.
The purpose of this data collection effort was to compile updated land allocation-related data from individual units into a comprehensive data set that will reflect changes since 1994 and provide a more accurate depiction of current land allocations for the NWFP area.
2005 - (tlindemann, GDM) Data was reprojected from either UTM10/NAD27, UTM11/NAD27, or Albers/NAD27 to Albers/NAD83. Then the data was migrated into the geodatabase environment.

The Northern Spotted Owl activity center layer from the Klamath was received in a composite coverage containing block LSRs (Late Successional Reserves) and 100 acre LSRs. It was indicated by the Forest that those polygons attributed with a "KL_number" denoted a 100 acre spotted owl activity center. A reselect was performed to create a new Klamath layer from these polygons. The Six Rivers, Shasta-Trinity, Mendocino layers were used as is. The items ACTSAC, ACTSREG and ACTSLSC were added at the RSL for planning purposes. All other items were dropped.
