Taylor Creek Visitor Center
Naturalist Led Programs for the Summer of 2009
This is a list of guided activities that are presented at
the US Forest Service Visitor Center at Taylor Creek. The Visitor Center
is located 3 miles north of the "Y" in South Lake Tahoe. Take Hwy 89 past
the Tallac Historic Site.

* Stream conditions will determine the start date for creek walks. Kids in the Creek program is for
children ages 6-12. Morning and afternoon programs meet at the Visitor Center.

Tuesdays

Creek Ecology*
Shorts and water-shoes are a must for this activity as we will walk in
the stream as it makes its way to Lake Tahoe. Many types of aquatic
life will be encountered in, under, and around Taylor Creek (two
hours). Please meet for this walk on the patio at the Taylor Creek
Visitor Center.

Rainbow Walk
Join a naturalist for a morning walk down the Rainbow Trail to the
Stream Profile Chamber. This walk starts on the patio at the Taylor
Creek Visitor Center. |

2:00 p.m. |
Patio Talk
Join a naturalist every afternoon for a variety of sit-down, informal
afternoon chats. This takes place on the patio at the Taylor Creek
Visitor Center. Naturalists pick the shady spots, but please
bring a hat because the sun tends to move.

Participate in art, games, and outdoor fun.

Kids in the Creek*
A naturalist will lead this special program for children 6 to 12 years old. Jump right in and explore a small,
shallow section of Taylor Creek. After we see who and what can be found in the creek, we'll visit the
Stream Profile
Chamber. Kids will need shorts and water-shoes. For safety, numbers will be limited. This is a one
hour activity and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Smokey Bear LIVE
Tips on fire safety and the use of firefighter equipment followed by a
visit from our famous mascot, Smokey Bear. |

Rainbow Trail at
Night
Enjoy a guided evening walk on the Rainbow Trail with a ranger. Dress
warmly and bring bug repellent. Meets at the Visitor Center.

Evening Ranger Program
Audio-Visual Presentation, stories, legends, and fun exploring Tahoe's natural and
cultural history. Dress warmly and bring bug repellent. The
program takes place at the Lake of the
Sky Amphitheater located at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center.
