Taylor Creek

The Taylor Creek/Fallen Leaf area provides the new-comer to cross-country skiing an opportunity to enjoy winter adventure on National Forest lands at Lake Tahoe. Cross-country skiing can provide freedom from lift lines, crowds and groomed slopes.

Developed for the beginner, this well marked series of trails allows skiers to explore an area of forest with the knowledge that other people are near and there is no avalanche danger. The terrain is mostly flat and provides an excellent day tour for the entire family. The developed trails cover a large area and although heavily used, are not congested.

Weather conditions can change rapidly in the mountains. Be prepared with the proper clothing by dressing in layers. A topographic map and compass are recommended for unmarked trails. Below is a link to an orientation map of the trailheads. For more safety tips and other cross-country ski information see the menu on the right side of this page.

Parking

A Sno-Park Permit is required to park in the Taylor Creek Sno-Park. Daily permits are $5.00 and a season pass is $25.00. Permits are available from the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit Forest Supervisor's Office during regular office hours. On weekends and evenings, permits may be purchased from the Chevron Gas Station in Meyers or Longs Drugs at the "Y" in South Lake Tahoe. You may also purchase a Sno-Park permit from Permit Vendors located throughout Northern California. During snow removal, any vehicle parked illegally may be towed at the owner's expense. Please observe the signs.
