Bayview Campground is generally open Mid-May through the first week of October. This campground is at a higher elevation and opening and closing dates are dependant on the weather. Sites at Bayview Campground are available on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations are taken. Bayview is a Forest Service campground operated by private concessionaire, California Land Management and may be reserved up to 180 days prior to the first day of the reservation. Bayview Campground also serves as a Trailhead for Desolation Wilderness.

Directions

Take Hwy 89 north from South Lake Tahoe approximately 8 miles to the Bayview Campground located across from Inspiration Point.

Access Two-lane highway leads to the campground.

BBQ's & Rings Fire rings at all sites; please use fire areas provided at each campsite and do not build additional fire rings.  Remember, only collect dead and down wood in the nearby forest for your fires and before leaving your campsite make sure your fire is "Dead Out."  Help prevent forest fires!

Season of Use Generally open May through first week of October.  This campground is at a higher elevation and opening and closing dates are dependant on the weather.
Services Contact the campground host in case of emergency. Medical, dental, and optical services are available in South Lake Tahoe. Barton Memorial Hospital offers 24-hour emergency care and is fully staffed. Groceries, fuel, laundry and other services are available in South Lake Tahoe.
Special Attractions The Bayview Campground also serves as a Trailhead for Desolation Wilderness. A Wilderness Permit is required to enter Desolation Wilderness. Day hikers may pick up a day-use permit at the self serve area at the Trailhead. Overnight hikers must obtain an overnight permit before you arrive at the Trailhead. Follow this link for additional information on obtaining a permit for Desolation Wilderness. Corral and watering facilities for horses are available at the Trailhead. Water for the watering facilities is taken from the creek which usually runs dry by the latter part of July, August and September. You should make arrangements to provide your own water during these months.
