The Lassen National Forest is a leader in the Prescribed Burning
Program. Prescribed burning is used as a land management tool
to reduce the amount of fuel --dead wood, ground litter such
as needles and small twigs, and other material -- that has
built up on the forest floor. This reduces the risk of high
intensity catastrophic wildfire.
The Lassen Fire Organization includes an
Airbase,a Dispatch Center, a Hotshot
Crew and a Helitack Crew. In addition,
there are fourteen fire engines with
crews, three ten person handcrews, three
watertenders staffed, six fire lookout
towers staffed, six fire prevention
technicians, five fuels officers, and
six fire management officers/assistants
stationed at one of three districts
on the forest.
