Bishop, CA (September 18, 2009)...On Saturday, September 26, the US Forest Service invites you to gather at the Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center in Lee Vining to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the designation of the Mono Basin National Forest Scenic Area. Designated by Congress on September 28, 1984, the US Forest Service has worked with many partners over the last quarter century to protect the unique geology, cultural history, and ecosystems of Mono Lake and the surrounding Basin. A ceremony will begin at the visitor center at 9:00 am with cake and refreshments served afterwards.
At 11:00, festivities will continue at the Old Marina parking area, just below the visitor center, where California State Parks and the US Forest Service welcome you to join in the dedication of the newly constructed Mono Lake Trail that connects the visitor center to Mono Lake. The ceremony will include several partner recognitions, a ribbon cutting, and question and answer sessions at the interpretive stations along the 1.2 mile hiking trail.
