APPENDIX A
CURRENT FOREST MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

The following are timber harvest and timber stand accomplishments of the Lassen, Plumas, and Sierraville Ranger District of the Tahoe National Forest from 1993 to 1998. This represents the period of time that current California Spotted Owl interim direction has been in effect.

Note that yearly accomplishments are subject to budgetary fluctuations and also respond to catastrophic events (for example, the Cottonwood fire on the Sierraville District).

Pilot Area Stocking Control Accomplishment lists total acres of thinning done via precommercial thinning. For the pilot area, much of this accomplishment is done through multi-product sale. This type of activity involves both the removal of small trees as well as trees capable of producing sawlogs and hence can be recorded either as precommercial or commerical thinning. Activities are credited as being accomplished the year the sale is offered or, in the case of a service contract, the year the contract was awarded.

Pilot Area Harvest Acres are reported the year the actual harvest occurs.

Sale Offer History lists accomplishments by year. MCP refers to small trees which are usually made into chips for paper pulp or for energy fuel. Sawlogs are generally trees greater than 10 inches in diameter. Accomplishment is credited to the year when the sale is offered.
