The Herger-Feinstein Quincy Library Group Pilot Project is being implemented over approximately 1.5 million acres across the Lassen and Plumas National Forest and the Sierraville District of the Tahoe National Forest. The Project is designed to test and demonstrate the effectiveness of fuels and vegetation management activities to meet ecologic, economic and fuel reduction objectives.
Blakeless Field Trip September 22, 2009
The public is invited to attend a cooperative field trip to review the Blakeless Underburn Project as well as the Grizzly Watershed Restoration Project on September 22. The purpose of the field trip is to review the effectiveness of the projects after they have been implemented. The projects were designed and implemented as part of the Herger-Feinstein Quincy Library Group Forest Recovery (HFQLG) Act.

Monitoring Tours Rescheduled
New dates are set for two Lassen National Forest monitoring field trips. The July 16 field trip for the Almanor Ranger District has been rescheduled to October 6. The field trip for the Hat Creek Ranger District is scheduled for August 25. The monitoring field trips will look at a variety of forest treatment projects ranging from thinning and fuels reduction to riparian restoration.

Rich Fire Kingsbury Rush DFPZ Effectiveness Report
This report shows the effectiveness of DFPZ’s in reducing fire severity. Within the Rich Fire area is a 6094 acre section of the Kingsbury Rush DFPZ treatment area. The DFPZ area was used by fire personnel to help contain the Rich Fire.
Peterson Fire Pittville DFPZ Effectiveness Report
This report shows the effectiveness of DFPZ’s in reducing fire severity. Within the Peterson Complex Fire area was a section of the Pittville DFPZ. Local Fire managers estimate that without the Pittville DFPZ, the Peterson Complex would have been at least 1,000 acres larger.

Pinchot Institute selected as science review team for HFQLG, review to begin Nov. 12
The US Forest Service recently selected the Pinchot Institute for Conservation to be the Scientific Review Team for the Herger-Feinstein Quincy Library Group (HFQLG) Forest Recovery Act Pilot Project.
HFQLG Project - Impacts of Vegetation Management on Water Yield
The project is mandated to address the timing of water releases, water
quality changes, and water-yield changes on pilot areas. The preferred Sierra
Conservation Framework alternative for the Plumas, Lassen, and Tahoe National Forests
includes implementing the Quincy Library Group project for five years and the resulting
water-yield changes on these forests are evaluated and discussed in this report.
