In August 2000, the President directed
the Secretaries of Agriculture and Interior to develop a response to severe
wildland fire, reduce fire impacts on rural communities, and assure sufficient
firefighting capacity in the future.
Federal agencies were asked, in cooperation with states and local communities,
to take actions to reduce immediate hazards to communities in the wildland-urban
interface, and to assure that fire management planning and firefighter personnel
and resources are prepared for extreme fire conditions in the future.
Below are links to the Success Stories that have occurred in the Pacific Southwest
Region as a result of the National Fire Plan.
