Description:

Volunteers work closely with Agency Wilderness Staff and can choose from a variety of project based resource management activities: trail maintenance; campsite restoration and monitoring; visitor education; interpretive programming and Wilderness permit office support. Field projects involve hiking in moderate to difficult terrain and require a good level of physical fitness. We ask our volunteers to make a minimum commitment of six days per season.

Are you up for the challenge? If so, come join us for an opportunity to make a difference in the legacy we will pass on to our future generations.

Desolation Wilderness Volunteer program is a cooperative effort between the Eldorado National Forest and the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. Its goals include increasing community involvement in wilderness management and enhancing the experiences of Desolation visitors. Funded entirely through donations collected at wilderness trailheads, the volunteer program is an example of the crucial role that members of the public play in caring for wilderness.

Each year the Forest Service seeks wilderness enthusiasts to join the Desolation volunteer team! If you have further questions please contact us at the numbers listed below.
