Location: T8N17E Sec. 27, 28, 33, and 34. North side of Mokelumne Canyon approx. 2.5 miles east of Salt Springs Reservoir. A mile south of Mokelumne Peak.
Date of Origin: 06/20/2004 9:30 a.m.
Size:  400 acres
Contained: 100%
Estimated Containment Date: June 24
Cause: Human caused-abandoned campfire
Vegetation: Mixed conifer brush in steep terrain.
Resources on Incident: A Type 3 Incident Management Team is assigned to the fire. 120+ personnel: including 4 helicopters and 5 hand crews.
Injuries: None
Cost: $250,000

Current Status:  Firefighters made excellent progress on the Moke fire Wednesday. By the end of the day, the fire was 100% contained at 400 acres.

As the fire is within the Mokelumne Wilderness, fire fighting techniques that leave minimal impact are being utilized to suppress the fire and prevent its spread. Fire managers  used a combination of natural rock and river barriers, helicopter water drops, and hand crews to suppress the Moke fire.
