On July 1st, 1908 President Theodore Roosevelt signed a declaration that created the Cleveland National Forest. Now, 101 years later, the Cleveland National Forest is going strong and proves to be a wonderful play ground for not only wildlife, but for many of the 3 million plus residents in the greater San Diego area.

2010 Explore the Stars - September 10 & 11
The Explore the Stars program provides visitors an opportunity to see views of the universe rarely seen by the public this weekend.
An exciting amateur astronomy project occurs each summer and fall at Palomar Mountain's Observatory Campground. A group of amateur astronomers from all across Southern California bring the beauty and the awe of the night sky to more than a hundred non-astronomers at a location only two miles from the world renowned Palomar Observatory. National Public Land Day - September 25, 2010 "Fee Free" Day
The Cleveland, Angeles, Los Padres, and San Bernardino National Forests are reminding visitors that September 25 is National Public Lands Day, a "Fee Free" day. A National Forest Adventure Pass (Adventure Pass) will not be required for visitors recreating in areas that typically require one. Visitors are encouraged to "Check Before You Go."

Sunrise Powerlink

Wild Pig Hunting
There are areas on the Palomar and Descanso Ranger District where pigs have been detected.
It is your responsibility to know where you can legally hunt. A map is attached to the notice. A Forest Topographical Atlas is available for sale at Forest Service Offices for $18.
Wild Pigs, as used in this chapter on the Department of Fish and Game website, means free-roaming pigs not distinguished by branding, ear marking, or other permanent identification methods.To review Fish and Game Code about wild pigs, please go to Section 4650-4657. Get to Know contest coming soon!
The Cleveland National Forest has several day hikes, overnight camping sites, and picnic areas that are quick and easy to get to. So, go outside, visit a park, local zoo or aquarium and spend some time getting to know your neighbors of other species.
Then submit art, writing, photography, or videos about your experience to the Get to Know Contest, which launches on October 1 and runs until November 30. You could win cash prizes and a free stay at Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park.

Area Closures and Advisories to Protect Nesting Raptors
There are currently no closures.
The Cleveland National Forest has been working hard to ensure that raptors, and their habitat across the Forest is proactively managed. Area advisories for Prairie Falcon nesting activity and some sites warrant “area closures” for Golden Eagle nesting activities. Read more...

The seasonal Arroyo Toad closure has ended at Boulder Oaks Campground. The campground has been re-opened. The closure had been extended an extra month this year due to the wet weather and an increase in toad activity. There is currently NO water and NO fires allowed at this campground. 07/09/2010
