Mount Rose Wilderness

Blue lakes, colorful flowers and a variety of wildlife are a few of the things seen in this wilderness. Mount Rose, the highest peak in the Carson Mountains, is a landmark visible from Reno, Nevada. Nestled between the Sierra Nevada mountain range and the Great Basin is the 30,000 acres of Mount Rose Wilderness. This wilderness serves as a backyard recreation area and an important watershed for many people living in western Nevada.

Directions

The Mount Rose Wilderness lies southwest of Reno, Nevada. Access is available off Mount Rose Highway (Nevada Highway 431) at Timberline Road, Galena Creek County Park and Mount Rose Summit.

Maximum Group: 15 people and 25 head of stock

Permits: Wilderness permits are not required, but campfire permits are required for all open fires (including camp stoves). This campfire permit DOES NOT authorize use of fire when fire restrictions are in effect. Check the Current Conditions page or call the Carson Ranger Station or Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit for current fire restrictions.
