Mount Moriah Wilderness The Mount Moriah Wilderness is located in the north Snake Range near the Utah boarder in central eastern Nevada. The 12,050 foot Mount Moriah rises over 6,000 vertical feet above the Snake Valley on its east flank and the Spring Valley on the west. Stretching north and west of the peak is a unique plateau called the Table. At 11,000 feet the two-square mile Table is home to ancient Bristlecone Pines and many colorful wildflowers. Deep, rugged canyons, many with year round streams flow from the high country to the desert world below. DirectionsThere are four main trailheads on the east side of the wilderness: Hendrys Creek, Hampton Creek, Horse Canyon, and Smith Creek. The Big Canyon Trail on the West side offers the shortest access to the Table, though the trail is very steep. Roads to these trail heads are rough and steep. 4-wheel drive is recommended. Maps and trail information are available at the Ely Ranger Station. Nearest Nevada Towns: Ely and Baker Special InformationMaximum Group: 15 people, 25 head of stock Permits: None Required |
