Wilderness Permits
The Carson-Iceberg, Hoover and Mokelumne Wilderness Areas on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest require an overnight camping permit.
For the Hoover Wilderness, it
is recommended that if you are planning a wilderness trip during the busy summer months, that you obtain a wilderness permit reservation in advance of your trip.
Wilderness permit availability is limited from the last Friday in June through September 15, every year. This “quota” season was established to help maintain the wilderness character. Limiting the number of wilderness visitors during the heaviest use period helps to provide a better wilderness experience, while protecting the physical and biological resources. There are six trailheads providing access to the Hoover Wilderness which fall under the quota system. These are: Virginia Lakes, Green Creek, Horse Creek, Robinson Creek, Buckeye, Leavitt Meadows.
Permits are also available at the Carson or Bridgeport Ranger Stations or at the trailhead. |
