Region 4 Fire Hire Permanent Fire Positions

The Intermountain Region Fire Hire program is being implemented to streamline the hiring process for permanent fire positions, and allow for more consistent hiring around the Region. The change in hiring process is in response to a continual vacancy situation that all national forests in the Region currently face. Positions that become vacant during the fire hiring process may be filled through an immediate "back filling" process even though they are not currently vacant. Candidates are encouraged to apply to any position/location on the forest that they are interested in, whether a vacancy currently exists or not. Fire Hire happens in the spring and in the fall.  That is the only time GS9 and below fire jobs will be filled. To see locations of vacant positions and potentially vacant positions refer to the Fire Hire outreach map for the Intermountain Region. Minimum 90 days wildland fire fighting experience is required.
