Barker Recreation Area

Barker Recreation Area is located in an aspen-spruce forest above 9000 feet in elevation. The area offers a campground with 13 individual campsites, a day use area adjacent to Upper Barker Reservoir and the group sites: Old Lady Young Group Area (capacity 50 to 100), Porter Group Area (capacity 35), and Gates Group Area (capacity 35). Two small fishing lakes permit non-motorized boat access. Seven other back-country fishing lakes can be accessed by the many hiking trails in the area, among them the Great Western Trail. Water hookups are not available at any of the sites in the area. Drinking water spigots are available within 100 feet of every campsite.
Barker Recreation Area can be accessed by driving 5 miles west of Escalante on Highway 12, then turning right on North Creek Road (Forest Service Road 149), and driving approximately 16 miles on a graveled mountain road.

FACILITIES:
13 units - auto/tent and trailer units - sites can accommodate trailers up to 30 feet in length. All campsites have water spigots within 100 feet of the campsite.

OPERATING SEASON:
The primary camping season is from May 19 through September 9, 2008
FEE:
$8.00 per night for single site plus $4.00 for an additional vehicle.
$35.00 per night for Gates Group Area and Porter Group Area.
$40.00 per night for the Old Lady Young Group Area for the first 50 people, $0.50 per person over 50.
No charge for day use area.

ATTRACTIONS:
Fishing
Nine individual lakes, two that permit non-motorized boat access. The other seven lakes can be accessed by the many hiking trails in the area, among them the Great Western Trail.
Boat dock on Lower Barker Reservoir (300 yards from parking area - small boats only)
Forested setting - aspen on the hillsides provides beautiful fall color around the lake.
SAFETY:
Bears live in this area. Be bear aware and follow "bear safe" food storage practices.
