IDAHO STATE UNIVERSITY. This institution
has become the center of excellence for amphibian research and surveys
in the West. They have several completed research projects in the
area and have conducted numerous surveys of amphibians in Idaho, Montana,
and Wyoming.
Dr. Charles (Chuck) Peterson is leading this effort.
He has developed a field guide to help identify the different species found
in Idaho, offers a correspondence course in herpetology and is also willing
to teach a short course in amphibian ecology and taxonomy to Forest Service

UTAH DIVISION OF WILDLIFE RESOURCE. The agency has
been conducting amphibian surveys throughout the state. The state has
three biologist conducting this work. The contacts are Paul Thompson,
Northern Utah (801) 476-2771, Krissy Wilson, Central Utah (801)
491-5678, and Rick Fridell, Southern Utah (435) 688-1426. In the Central
and Northern part of the state, they have focused efforts on Spotted Frogs
and Boreal Toads, but biologists record other amphibian species when
they are encountered during surveys. In the Southern portion, they have
been gathering information on ranges and populations of the many different amphibian
species found there.
NEVADA DIVISION OF WILDLIFE. This state agency
conducts surveys of reptiles and amphibians in the state. The program
is under the auspices of the Nongame Fish Program Director Jerry Steiner
