Ambystomatidae
(Mole Salamanders)
* 6 inches is smallest adult
Slender bodies with long tails.  Distinct body regions with arms and legs of equal size, smooth skin, distinct costal grooves,  teeth in roofof mouth in transverse row, absence of nasolabial groove.
Scaphidae
(Tailed Frogs)
* 1 1/2 inches is smallest adult
Small  size (less than 2 inches), outermost hind toe widest, Male has tail-like copulatory organ, vertical pupils, rough skin.
Pelobatidae
(Spadefoot Toads)
*  2 inches is smallest adult
"Spade" on each hind foot, vertical pupils, no parotoid glands, teeth in upper jaw, relatively smooth skin, Less than 2.5 inches long, most have boss between eyes.
Bufonidae
(True Toads)
*  3 inches is smallest adult
Stocky build, parotoid glands, warty skin, horizontal pupils, no teeth.  Most are over 3 inches long at maturity.
Hyladie
(Tree Frogs)
* 3/4 inches is smallest adult
Small size (less than 2 1/4 inches), slender body and legs, horizontal eyes, long toes and most have toe pads.
Ranidae
(True Frogs)
* 2 inches is smallest adult
Slim waist, long legs with pointed toes and extensive webbing, horizontal pupils, dorsolateral folds, smooth skin excellent jumpers.
