CONCLUSION

As you have seen, amphibians are very interesting species.  Their dependence on water for breeding and their complex life cycles may appear to be primitive to more highly evolved species but these very traits also make them excellent biological indicators.

Biologist are busy finding out more about the different frogs, toads, and salamanders that inhabit the Intermountain Region to insure that suitable habitat is provided for them.  Looking out for these species is part of the Forest Service mission of caring for the land and keeping healthy populations of amphibians may insure the continued survival of many other species as well.

You can help us by completing the amphibian observation form for any interesting observations you may have.  We will follow up on the information you provide and will update this web site as new information becomes available.
